Quota International recently presented Baton Rouge General’s Birth Center with 70 infant starter kits to provide new moms with some of the items they need in their first days at home. Each kit includes an infant blanket and two one-piece baby outfits.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will hold a live webinar on outreach programs at LDEQ. The webinar will be held on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The webinar will give attendees an overview of several programs that provide outreach assistance and opportunities. These programs include the Environmental Leadership Program, the Small Business/Community Assistance Program, the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, the Non-Point Source Pollution Program, and the Drinking Water Protection Program, among others.
The webinar is free.
Jade Devaull, a nine-year-old student at Central Intermediate School, donated more than 200 blankets to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital that she collected through her own nonprofit, Jade Cares Foundation. This is the fifth year in a row she has donated blankets to the hospital; this is her largest donation to date.
The new Baton Rouge General Louisiana Internal Medicine Associates (LIMA) clinic in Slaughter will offer free blood pressure, blood glucose, and BMI screenings at its grand opening on June 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. The public will also have a chance to meet Dr. Venu Kakarala, and his team of healthcare providers; tour the clinic; and enjoy refreshments.
“This is a great opportunity for the Slaughter community to come out and get screenings that may help identify and prevent future problems,” said Dr. Kakarala. “Knowing your numbers is the best way to set goals and manage your health.”
From 2010-2016, community health centers across Louisiana saw an 86% increase in patient growth. As detailed in a new report published by the Geiger Gibson/RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative, data shows that Louisiana gained nearly 178,000 new community health center patients, ranking the state first in the nation in patient growth rate.
