Officials of Shell’s Louisiana-based operations presented a check for $350,000 to support Baton Rouge General’s Critical Care and Regional Burn Center expansion. The check presentation took place at a ceremony at Shell’s Geismar chemical manufacturing facility.

John and Marty Engquist have a passion for helping pediatric cancer patients, and this passion will now be highlighted with their gift to the new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. The Engquist family has donated $1.5 million to the hematology and oncology floor of the new hospital to help continue care for children across Louisiana with cancer and blood disorders.

Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health will hold its second ParentingU session for local parents on the topic of sleep on April 11 at 6 p.m. in the LSU Health Medical Education and Innovation Center, down the street from the main hospital.
Guest speakers include pediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist Jessica Brown, DO, and pediatrician Ashley Lucas, MD. The pair will discuss good sleep hygiene, answer questions about common sleep issues and remedies, and discuss tips for parents to help their children with good sleep practices.

Baton Rouge General (BRG) has launched exclusive new technology that changes the way knee replacements are performed. Dr. Jared Braud was the first physician in Baton Rouge to perform a knee replacement using robotic surgery equipment found only at Baton Rouge General.
“The Mako robot is the most advanced option for knee replacement available today,” said Stephen Mumford, BRG’s vice president of operations. “We’re proud to be able to bring this technology to Baton Rouge and give our patients a new, more accurate option for their surgery."

The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Louisiana kicked off its Smoke-Free Louisiana Campaign, a public campaign to ask legislators to stand up for the health of their constituents by passing a statewide comprehensive smoke-free policy to make all workplaces smoke-free, including bars and gaming facilities.
