The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) launched a new era of person-centered care for mothers affected by substance use disorder (SUD) with the announcement of 11 inaugural Project M.O.M. (Maternal Overdose Mortality) catalyst site hospitals. The goal of Project M.O.M. is simple: to keep women alive and families intact.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center announced that eligible patients now have access to a fully outpatient CAR T-cell therapy program. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, often referred to as CAR-T, is an advanced immunotherapy that genetically engineers a patient’s own T-cells (white blood cells) to recognize, target, and kill cancer cells. While other providers offer inpatient CAR T-cell therapies where a lengthy hospital stay is necessary, Mary Bird Perkins is the first cancer center in the region to offer this service in an outpatient setting.

Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is celebrating American Heart Month this February by creating awareness of cardiovascular disease prevalence and prevention. CIS is offering free cardiovascular screenings at various locations throughout the month to aid in early detection.

CIS in Prairieville, located at 37292 Market Place Dr., Suite A, in Prairieville is hosting free EKG and blood pressure screenings on Feb. 13 from 2-4 p.m.

Manning Family Children’s received notification by the American College of Surgeons following a virtual site visit in December that the organization has been verified as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Level I Trauma Centers differ not only in clinical capability, but in their leadership role within the larger trauma system.
