Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute announced its participation as the first site in Louisiana for a Phase I clinical trial evaluating allogeneic CAR-T cell therapy. Nakhle Saba, MD serves as the principal investigator for this study involving cellular immunotherapy. Allogeneic CAR-T therapy utilizes donor-derived T cells that are genetically engineered to recognize and target cancer cells. This approach may lead to reduced treatment durations and enhanced patient outcomes.
Our Lady of the Lake Health announced a $55 million renovation of its Emergency Department, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, designed to expand capacity, integrate advanced technology, and improve the patient and caregiver experience. The renovation, set to begin in Fall 2025, will take place in three phases to minimize disruption to care. Throughout the renovation, the Emergency Department will remain fully operational 24/7.

Andrew Bishop, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon, has recently joined Baton Rouge General (BRG) Heart and Vascular Surgery. He specializes in heart valve and heart bypass surgery and treating coronary artery disease and thoracic cancer.
Bishop received a medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, then completed an integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
