The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is empowering families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to make healthier food choices with today’s implementation of Louisiana’s SNAP Food Restriction Waiver. Approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on August 4, 2025, the two-year pilot initiative removes soft drinks, energy drinks, and candy from the list of items eligible for purchase with SNAP benefits.

More than half of working-age adults get their health insurance through an employer, but in many states premium contributions and deductibles take a significant bite out of household incomes.
A new analysis from the Commonwealth Fund, a research nonprofit focused on health care, found that in 2024, premium contributions and deductibles for family plans totaled 10% or more of the median household income in 19 states. The calculation did not include copayments.
Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is celebrating American Heart Month this February by creating awareness of cardiovascular disease prevalence and prevention. CIS is offering free cardiovascular screenings at various locations throughout the month to aid in early detection.
CIS in Prairieville, located at 37292 Market Place Dr., Suite A, in Prairieville is hosting free EKG and blood pressure screenings on Feb. 13 from 2-4 p.m.
