Baton Rouge General has named vascular surgeon Andrew Olinde, MD, as its Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Dr. Olinde will be responsible for building positive relationships with the physician community and representing the General publicly on medical topics. In addition, he will continue to see patients at the Vascular Specialty Center located on the General’s Bluebonnet campus.
“Not only is Dr. Olinde a great physician and a great surgeon, but he is a great physician leader,” said Edgardo Tenreiro, acting CEO of BRG. “Over the years he has played a critical role in our clinical programs and now he will have the opportunity to work with his fellow physicians, with nurses and clinicians and with management with the goal of improving the health of the patients we serve. I am thrilled to have him as our Chief Medical Officer.”
Olinde is a board-certified general and vascular surgeon who has practiced medicine for 30 years. An LSU undergrad, he attended medical school at LSU-New Orleans and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Mississippi in Jackson and his fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Olinde will complete his term as BRG’s Chief of Medical Staff at the end of the year. He also serves on the faculty at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, and is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the James Hardy Surgical Society, the Society of Vascular Surgery, the Southern Association of Vascular Surgery the Capital Area Medical Society, the American College of Phlebology and the board for the Gulf Coast Vascular Society.
“I’ve been involved with the General for many years and I’ve always been impressed with the care it provides its patients,” said Olinde. “I’m excited to take on a new role and look forward to ensuring our physician groups are providing the best possible care to our community.”
