Louisiana Healthcare Connections Offers Provider Training on Prenatal Care, Syphilis Screening

In partnership with the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (LA AAP), Louisiana Healthcare Connections is offering a healthcare provider educational session on Oct. 29 regarding prenatal care and syphilis screening.

Louisiana has the third-highest case rate of congenital syphilis (passing to the baby in pregnancy) in the nation, according to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). Babies born to women with untreated syphilis may be stillborn, die from the infection as a newborn, or face serious health problems later in life. Healthcare providers play a critical role in screening for and treating syphilis.

The “Lunch & Learn” educational event will be held Oct. 29 at noon. The speaker will be Rachel Gilbert, DO. The learning opportunity qualifies for continuing education credits (CE’s, CMEs, and CNE’s) for physicians, nurses, and social workers, where applicable.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Interested healthcare professionals should sign up at http://lahealth.cc/register.
