Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health has added pediatric hematology-oncology specialist Lauren Raney, MD, to its team at the St. Jude Baton Rouge Affiliate Clinic where she will provide the latest in specialized medical care and techniques to children with a variety of blood disorders and cancers.
One of only eight St. Jude affiliates in the country, the clinic provides the same expertise, care, and treatments as patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., but closer to their home, family, and support system, which is a crucial part of a patient’s healing journey.
“Dr. Raney comes highly acclaimed from her fellowship program and has developed expertise in an array of pediatric hematology and oncology diseases,” said Jeff Deyo, MD, medical director of the St. Jude Baton Rouge Affiliate Clinic at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health. “Several of our faculty have worked with her in other settings, and she has proven to be hard working, bright, and family/patient oriented in her delivery of care."
The Dunwoody, Ga., native received her bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from the University of Georgia in Athens. She completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta before moving to New Orleans, where she completed her residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Most recently, Raney served as chief fellow and an administrative committee member for the Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
The new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is currently under construction and set to open in fall of 2019. The new hospital will feature an entire floor dedicated to pediatric cancer and blood disorder care, a new model of care delivery in pediatric hematology and oncology that will allow patients and families to stay in one place for all treatments, rather than travel to multiple offices. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital will be among one of the first in the nation to offer this type of coordinated care.
Raney joins Drs. Deyo, Sheila Moore, and Kacie Sims at the St. Jude Baton Rouge Affiliate Clinic located at 7777 Hennessy Blvd., Suite 312. For more information on how to be referred to the clinic, visit ololchildrens.org/HematologyOncology.
