DCHC to Provide Free Masks, Medical Services During National Community Health Center Week, Aug. 9-15

DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC), formerly known as Daughters of Charity Health Centers, will celebrate National Community Health Center Week through Aug. 15 by hosting several events throughout metro New Orleans. National Health Center Week, sponsored by the National Association of Community Health Centers, is an annual celebration which raises awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers.

Nationwide, community health centers lower healthcare costs by more than $24 billion annually, reduce rates of chronic diseases, and stimulate local economies. Michael G. Griffin, president and CEO of DCHC, which operates 10 health centers throughout New Orleans, believes that the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically demonstrates the importance of health centers.

“We proudly provide healthcare services to underserved communities, who are often forgotten, especially during trying times like these. Thanks to the various partnerships we’ve formed and generous support from several entities, DePaul ensures that our patients continue to receive much-needed healthcare--including COVID-19 virus testing--as the battle against the virus continues. Many of our planned activities for National Community Health Center Week are made possible by organizations and partners that believe in our mission,” said Griffin.

The DCHC mobile medical unit was on hand at the Forest Park Apartments in Algiers on Aug. 11 to provide free medical services to residents. DCHC will provide free masks to the community on Aug. 13 at 2909 Desire Parkway beginning at 12 n.n., and to seven senior housing centers.

Both free food and masks will be provided Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. at Total Community Action, 1420 S. Jefferson Davis Parkway. Also that day, free masks will be donated to Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp Street.

On Aug. 14 at 1 p.m., DCHC’s Read for Your Health program will receive a donation of more than 1,500 books from a local Boy Scout troop at the New Orleans East health center, 5630 Read Blvd. A complete list of National Community Health Center Week activities is below.
