Louisiana’s largest provider of aid for sexual assault survivors cut back on services this month as a result of not receiving funding before the federal government shutdown. 

Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response, or STAR, had to halt its hospital accompaniment program, where staff members support victims going through an evidence-gathering medical exam after a sexual assault.

Seven Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center locations have received recertification by the QOPI® (Quality Oncology Practice Initiative) Certification Program, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology and an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).   

The QOPI® Certification Program builds on ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, providing a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care.

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is announcing that due to the federal government shutdown in Washington, D.C., Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will not be issued to recipients starting Nov. 1. Any unused SNAP benefits from previous months will remain on recipients’ Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards and can be used as usual.

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is hosting “Tailgating and Testing,” a free prostate cancer screening event. The event will be held on Oct. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Reimagine Women’s Center Business Resources & Innovation Hub located at 7600 Airline Hwy. in Baton Rouge. 

This free event brings cancer prevention resources directly into the community.

The Ochsner Accountable Care Network (OACN) has been recognized for its performance in both healthcare quality and cost savings for Medicare patients.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its 2024 report on ACOs in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Ochsner ranked No. 3 out of 476 ACOs nationwide for care coordination, based on patient surveys. It also placed in the top 11% for overall quality.
