The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) announced the application period for the second round of the H.E.R.O. Fund. Approximately $6 million will be distributed among recipients.
The H.E.R.O. Fund, which provides matching two-year grants to healthcare training and education programs, helps grow the healthcare workforce pipeline in Louisiana.
The application period will close on Jan. 16, 2026.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections has awarded six community organizations a total of $12,000 in grant funding to support local projects that address social drivers of health, expand access to preventive care, and improve health outcomes for Louisiana residents.
Grant recipients were selected for their commitment to addressing health-harming social needs through community-centered solutions:
-The Walls Project will expand its farm-based wellness programs to reach more families in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by health disparities.
Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University’s Student Government Association is providing 53 Thanksgiving meal kits to students in need during the weeks of Nov. 17 and 23.
The initiative replaces FranU’s annual Turkey Bowl in response to student food insecurity. SGA recognized that some students may go without a Thanksgiving meal and wished to provide direct support to the campus community during the holiday season.
The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has appointed Seth J. Gold as Medicaid director.
Gold brings nearly a decade of experience in federal health policy. Most recently, Gold served as a professional staff member for the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where he advised members of Congress on Medicaid, CHIP, and the 340B Drug Pricing Program. He led the development of major legislation to expand care for people with disabilities, modernize home and community-based services, and enhance rural healthcare access.
