Just a week after Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration confirmed the sudden end of a $4.2 billion Medicaid contract that provides health insurance to more than 330,000 people, state officials backed off their original plan and said they would seek an extension of the arrangement through March instead.

On Dec. 17, FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital hosted a planned training exercise with the Baton Rouge and St. George Fire Departments, followed by a special visit from LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Mulkey. 

As part of the scheduled training exercise, fire department personnel involved in the event rappelled down the side of the building and used ladder trucks to wave to children inside.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Republicans announced Tuesday they will hold a vote on their own health care proposal later this week to counter a Democratic bill that would extend enhanced tax credits for Affordable Care Act marketplace plans for three more years.

The 32-page GOP bill would not address the expiring ACA marketplace tax credits but would send payments to certain Americans through Health Savings Accounts to cover some of the cost of health care.

ATLANTA — A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention committee voted to eliminate a recommendation that all newborn babies receive a vaccine against hepatitis B, ending a policy that has been in place since 1991 to protect Americans against an incurable liver disease that can lead to cirrhosis, cancer and liver failure.
