Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Set for Third Annual Amazing Half Marathon Weekend

More than 2,000 runners from across the country are anticipated to gather in Baton Rouge this weekend as Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital holds its third annual Amazing Half Marathon weekend – an extension of the hospital’s vision to create a healthier Louisiana through teaching families healthy habits.

Activity begins Saturday with half-mile and one-mile fun runs for kids, as well as a 5K. Sunday features a 10K and the signature half marathon. The 10K race will be a qualifier for the Crescent City Classic held in New Orleans.

“As we get closer to opening the doors to our new children’s hospital in 2019, it’s exciting to involve members of the local community and beyond in a project that will have major implications on pediatric healthcare across the state,” said Shaun Kemmerly, MD, chief medical officer of Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. “This event is also a great way for the entire family to get moving and participate in a healthy activity together.”

Registration fees and courses for the different race categories can be found at http://amazinghalf.com/.

As an educational component to the weekend, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health will host Adelaide Robb, MD, a national expert on child and adolescent psychology, for a continuing medical education symposium on March 10. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health physicians Joseph Grizzaffi, MD, and Chris Funes, MD, also led a public session on the topic of anxiety in children and teens on March 8 as part of the inaugural ParentingU series.
