As construction progresses on the new Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital, crews recently began installing interior walls, while also continuing work to close in the hospital exterior.
"We have hit a very exciting time in our construction where the progress is visible every time you pass the new facility on the interstate," said Shaun Kemmerly, MD, chief medical officer of Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. "To know that we're already beginning work on the interior, where we will one day treat patients from across the state of Louisiana and the Southeast region, makes opening day seem that much more of a reality."
To date, approximately 8,000 cubic yards of concrete have been poured, 1,500 tons of structural steel have been erected, and installation of overhead plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work has begun. Crews are 60 percent complete with steel erection, and fireproofing operations will follow the steel work and slab pours. Additionally, metal stud framing has begun in the kitchen and dining areas.
Approximately 1,000 additional tons of structural steel will be erected before steel is completed or “topped out” later this fall. Construction on the attached medical office building also will begin this month.
The new facility is expected to open in 2019. To follow construction updates, including footage from a live web cam, visit letsbuildamazing.com.
